New assistant professorship starting winter semester 2020/21


We welcome Ass.-Prof. Dr. Rémi Armand Tchokothe warmly to our department!

Before taking up the newly created Tenure-Track Professorship at the University of Vienna, Rémi Armand Tchokothe (Ph.D) was assistant professor of African Languages and Literatures in African Languages at the University of Bayreuth (Germany). His research areas include Swahili literature, francophone literature of the Indian Ocean, literature and field research (Eastern Africa), and orature archiving/digitisation. He is a principal investigator in the cluster of excellence Africa Multiple: Reconfiguring African Studies.

In the winter semester 2020/21 he will take up an assistant professorship at our department and at the department of African Studies. He will in future also be available to students as a supervisor for their final theses.
